Blue on Fuels. Electricity

The vast minority of barbecue appliances used in Australia is (are - it's your choice) electric-powered. However, a friend of mine who works for one of the big distributors of these things says they are poised to take over the world. Personally, I think it is simply the thin edge of a wedge aimed at getting the average Australian bloke to realise he can cook inside and that it doesn't have to involve flames. What's next - the bar-b-crockpot?

A friend won an electric grill in a raffle a few years ago. She's never used it and I think it's the lead that spooks her. Why on earth would you want your barby spot dictated by the positioning of a power point? it's not only unnatural, it's un-Australian.

Mind you, clever advertising programs might just see electric barbys achieve world domination. The one at right was devised by Sunbeam and it seeks to make the claim that electricity is the original heat source for barbecuing - not bad, not bad at all!
