Q I would like to know how to set my Weber kettle so that the air flow is
right and it does not keep going out. It is a red one and about 7 years old, it
is the one with 3 slots in the bottom, and also 4 round slots in the lid. I do
hope
you can help me as I would like to use it more.

A Hi Doug, I''ve got exactly the same sort of Weber - except mine is about
twice as old! 95% of the time, I leave everything wide open - all three bottom
slots
and the holes in the lid.
The other 5% occurs when I am slow smoking in the Weber. I then close the
bottom slots about half way. The top ones must always be kept wide open
otherwise the food could develop a 'creosote' flavour and the
charcoal/briquettes will go out.
I think a partially closed top vent may be your problem.
I look on the top vent as a handy gadget to stop fauna from setting up home
inside the barby when it's not in use. If it wasn't for that, it might as
well be welded in the open position.
There's some good info about setting up Webers at www.weberbbq.com.au
