Q It doesn't matter how long I let my old three burner gas barbecue
heat up I still can't get stripes on my steaks. What is causing the
problem?

A Robert, there's a choice of at least three reasons for this.Either your
barbecue is poorly designed (read - cheap, old or both), the jets are
clogged or else you have a gas leak.
The first is unfortunate, the second annoying but the third could be deadly.
DO NOT USE YOUR BARBY AGAIN UNTIL IT IS INSPECTED BY A SUITABLY
QUALIFIED ADULT.
If it checks out okay for leaking hoses/fittings and blocked gas jets, then it's
probably just a case of lack of BTUs (British Thermal Units - a measure of heat).
It's a bit like old Landrovers - they might look tough but they tend to run out of puff
when it's needed the most.
If it's heat you want, invest in a Hibachi and a bag of charcoal for cooking perfect
steaks and keep your old barby for sausages, seafood etc.
Go on move it! Get it checked now.
